Coach Resources

To ensure that Leadership Coaches have the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively coach Certificate participants, the Illinois Leadership Center offers resources for our volunteers.

Coach Orientation: Provides an introduction to the Certificate Program, including participant requirements, coach expectations, and strategies for successful coaching. All new coaches are asked to meet with an ILC staff member to receive this information upon submitting the Leadership Coach application.

Cavenaugh Leadership Library: The Illinois Leadership Center® is home to over 1,000 books on leadership and related topics. These can be checked out by any of our coaches.

Coach Manual: This helpful resource contains all the information you need to know about serving as a Leadership Coach. Click below to view the digital version of the manual. 

 

What does the ILC do for participants and coaches?

The Illinois Leadership Center employs a team of undergraduate, graduate, and professional staff to support all aspects of the Leadership Certificate Program. 

The Leadership Certificate Team supports participants in the following ways:

  • Conducts all optional and required workshops
  • Communicates about important dates and deadlines
  • Consults with participants about program requirements
  • Shares resources and opportunities for participants to fulfill requirements
  • Meets individually with participants at least once per semester
  • Troubleshoots communication issues between participants and coaches
  • Coordinates the Cohort program
  • Organizes the Completion Ceremony

An Assistant Director supports coaches in the following ways:

  • Conducts all coach orientation meetings
  • Coordinates the matching of coaches and participants
  • Communicates about important dates and deadlines
  • Consults with coaches about program requirements
  • Shares resources and opportunities for professional development
  • Troubleshoots communication issues between coaches and participants
  • Receives all course waivers for LEAD 260 and grants final approval
  • Meets individually with coaches as needed
