All student employees must be enrolled students at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The recruitment and selection process for new hires typically begins in late February each year.

As a student employee of the Illinois Leadership® Center (ILC), Leadership Paraprofessionals (LP) work in peer-led teams to provide support for ILC’s programs and services. LPs are interviewed and selected for one of the following ILC work teams:
- Assessment and Research
- Branding, Advertising, Marketing & Outreach (BAMO)
- Certificate Program
- Leadership Education
Expectations: All LPs are expected to attend mandatory orientations & trainings, serve as a positive representative for the ILC, and conduct themselves with professionalism. Ideal candidates will have the ability to work in a team environment, demonstrate interest & enthusiasm for leadership education, exhibit a strong work ethic, and possess the necessary skills for the success on their assigned team.
Hours: LPs work hours vary between 5-10 hours/week based on employee availability, team needs, and special projects.
Outcomes: As a result of being employed in the ILC, all student employees will

As a student employee of the Illinois Leadership® Center (ILC), Graf Interns are interviewed and selected to lead one of the ILC work teams. In addition to the expectations of LPs, Graf Interns are expected to work with the professional staff and/or graduate assistants to organize and coordinate logistical and administrative aspects for their assigned work teams.
Hours: Graf Interns work hours vary between 10-15 hours/week based on employee availability, team needs, and special projects.
- Minimum 2.8 grade point average
- Familiarity with the ILC through previous program participation or enrollment in a leadership course
- Junior or Senior standing during the term of the Internship
- Available to work 15 hours per week from mid August - mid May
This internship program is funded by the generous donation of a former student leader, John Graf. John and his wife, Maureen, created the Graf Internship Program for current Illinois students. As an Illinois student, John had to work throughout his college years at the same time that he was an involved student leader in the Student Organization Resource Fee Board, Volunteer Illini Projects, Student Government, Mortar Board, and Greek Affairs (only naming a few). He gave this gift to provide students who need to work the opportunity to develop their skills in the Leadership Center environment.
Graduate Assistantship (GA)
As student employees, Graduate Assistants serve as a member of the Illinois Leadership® Center staff. Our GAs work closely with the professional and student staff at the Center.
Expectations: Responsibilities of our Graduate Assistants include assisting the professional staff with the oversight of ILC's programs and services, advising undergraduate student employees, participating in assessment & research projects, planning collaborative programs & workshops with various academic and student affairs departments, facilitating workshops or completing other tasks as needed.
Hours: GAs work a standard 20 hours/week.
This position is traditionally a monthly paid assistantship. Typically, the Center employs students enrolled in graduate programs within the College of Education but this is not a requirement for employment. For more information about graduate student employment, please click here.
Professional Staff Positions
Professional staff within the Illinois Leadership® Center have experience in leadership education and leadership development, and often possess a background in higher education administration. All employment vacancies, when they occur, are posted at the University of Illinois employment website.
